How far is it to the beach?

The closest beach is just over 1km the way the crow flies but about 3km by road around wetlands. It is also about 2km by kayak (you can borrow our 1-person kayaks). It is also possible to walk or cycle along the roads to the beach but note that the 1km highway section is narrow, has a 100kph speed limit and therefore needs care and attention.

There are many beaches in the Bawley Point area. One of the beauties of our south coast beaches is that they are relatively protected by headlands, smallish and have less rip risk than longer, particularly north coast, beaches.

Are there bushwalks nearby?

Visitors are free to walk anywhere on our 36-acre property and along about 2km of bushwalking tracks on it and alongside the Lake (a public reserve), all at their own risk. We have provided a separate folder labeled “Bushwalk Notes” in each cottage to enhance walking pleasure. On-site walking tracks are limited compared with the many beautiful bush and beach walks in the district. 

Nearby there are walks to Nuggan Head and Meroo Lake from the Willinga car-park, a spectacular 2-8 hour return inland walk from Pretty Beach south to Mt Durras/Pebbly Beach and ann exhilarating and initially steep 2-hour return climb/walk to the 720m high Pigeon House Mountain (see separate item).

There are many other walks including along the several beaches and headlands between Bawley Point and Pretty Beach and in the Murramarang aboriginal heritage area. The beach-walk south of Pretty Beach is a must-not-miss delight. There are two coastal aboriginal cultural walks in Ulladulla (one on Warden Head, the other north of the harbour). Can we bring pets?

We sre pet friendly and allow a maximum of 2 dogs at a separate nightly tariff that is less than you would pay for boarding kennels. See tariff tab for current tariff. Dogs are permitted inside but not on furniture or on carpeted bedroom floors so if your dog uses furniture please bring a rug.Dogs can be off-leash on our property but must be very well-controlled to avoid offending other guests and the hunting of wildlife and reptiles. Droppings must be picked up. Cormorant and Oystercatcher have dog yards at rear, other cottages have tie-up points. Please ensure your dogs are protected from the possiblity of paralysis tick poisoning, a fatality risk in all NSW coastal areas.

Can we have a late check-out?

If your cottage is not booked by someone else on the day of your departure we can usually accommodate requests for a departure an hour or two later than our standard check-out time of 11am without charge. However if you exceed agreed arrangements you will be liable for a late check-out fee ranging from $75 to the full tariff for an extra night's accommodation.

If you are booking all or most cottages for a weekend function then we may be able to allow departure as late as 1pm from Cockatoo and Cafe provided the other cottages are vacated by 11am to allow cleaning.

What if we need to cancel?

We understand that there are times when bookings have to be cancelled. Our cancellation policy varies according to season but all cancellations, except those for bookings made directly with us and within 48 hours of booking where cancellation is free, will incurr an admin fee. Some cancellations will involve the surrender of part or all of your deposit. Please refer to your accommodation confirmation document for the cancellation policy that applies and/or to our website (which contains our full accommodation contract including cancellation policies under the Accommodation tab). Where a booking is made through a third party supplier then the cancellation policy advertised by that supplier will apply.

Can we take our dog to the beach?

Yes but limits apply.

Cormorant beach is the only legal 24-hour per day off-leash beach nearby. 

On all other beaches above high tide, except those in front of the ANU and in National Parks where they are prohibited dogs are permitted only "on leash". This means they must be under effective control. In reality our beaches most of the year are thinly populated and most dogs are let off physical leashes but owners must have them under effective control. Fully leashed supervision is definitely required at busy times because that is when people are most likely to be concerned and when rangers are busy. On National Park (north of Willinga inlet and Murramarang) and ANU (north of Kioloa) beaches dogs are prohibited unless physically leashed and on the hard-sand area (technically below mean high-water mark). We particularly ask our guests to comply with the spirit of the laws because in our area from August to April every year critically endangered hooded plovers use the upper beach areas for breeding. Many locals co-operate to help protect these birds. The eggs and chicks (which take 5 weeks to fledge) are beach-bound and very vulnerable to predation by foxes, goannas, snakes, crows, rats and dogs. At least we humans can control our dogs.
