My wife and I recently were married at Bawley Bush Cottages on the NSW south coast. We had travelled up and down the coast looking for the ideal wedding venue to hold our special day. We really loved Bawley Point and the bush setting at Bawley Bush Cottages, the Cockatoo Room (to hold the reception with it’s beautiful rustic feel) and the accommodation to hold many of our guests who travelled from as far as London to celebrate with us.
We began the celebrations on the Friday night with an almost traditional BBQ but as many of the guests are vegetarians the food was so unique and colourful, many opted for that alternative to the meat meal.
We had a fire ceremony that united the families together and the bride and groom to be to the delight of all as the fire was lit by the traditional method of rubbing sticks together.
This was followed by a drum and percussion circle around a big fire and dancing into the wee small hours of the morning.
The purpose of having a pre wedding ceremony was to get everyone together because every wedding I’ve ever been to has seen all the clicky groups gather together and no-one really getting to know each other. This was so the opposite to a normal wedding and the perfect set up to the following BIG day.
The wedding venue itself proved to be perfect for the younger children right through to the elders of both families. There were several children who absolutely loved the open lawned areas to run about and let off their energy, plus there were lots of places to hide. The more mature family and guests had lots to explore throughout the natural bushland, lake and buildings as well and there were small groups everywhere walking, sitting or milling about catching up or getting to know new people.
More to come….Stay tuned.
